3 Tips to a Great AdWords Quality Score

Google and Co. is always looking for a new way deliver better and more relevant content to its users, thus leading to an improved way of selecting relevant ads.  As a long term AdWords user I have managed hundreds of thousands of dollars in PPC Campaigns, ranging from travel and vacationing to health supplements and real estate, and often times I have seen the same mistakes.  Here are some Tips on how to optimize your landing page, ads and titles to help increase your ROI!

  1. Relevant Content - This is a NO BRAINIER!!  Still landing people on the home page from every ad? Stop it!!  If you really don’t know where else to direct someone, contact me, I’ll gladly help you out.
  2. Links - Ohhh Yes, did you think they were only an SEO thing?  Nope - they are an important factor for both SEO and PPC!  Google looks to see that relevant pages/sites link to your landing pages and that you also link out to related pages, so be sure to include some links in your landing page and watch that Quality Score go up!
  3. Ad Titles- Including things like, “100% Guaranteed”, “FREE Shipping!”, “What kind of Equipment do you need?”<- Asking a question is a great way to hook someone, “Order Online!”, “Safe & Secure”, “Trusted for over 25 Years” and “A New You for the New Year” are all great ways to get attention.  Use seasons, holidays and other important dates whenever you can, it shows people your ad is fresh!

Well folks, thats it for now!  There are many factors that go into determining Google Quality Score and if I knew them all I’d probably be working for them and having lunch with Matt Cutts, discussing no follows and laughing about how everyone makes such a huge deal about paid links.  :)

Everyone Can Do SEO, But Most Will Fail

SEO is simple. If you read one of the millions of blogs that covers it, you will read the same stuff over and over again… Good Content, Links, Meta Tags, Clean URLs, blah, blah, blah. They all regurgitate the same information and say it in a different way. Don’t get me wrong, there is often news that can be helpful, but rarely does anything change enough to make any SEO change his/her entire strategy.

You want good SEO? Stop being lazy. That’s the best tip in the world I can give you. If SEO’s invested even half the time they spend on buying and trading links into developing good content and sites that worked and offered their visitors an experience worth returning to, their results would ten fold. Building links to a crappy website with poor content might get you some traffic, but in time, Google and Co. will figure out ways to filter out these weak sites that offer nothing but old content and out of date information.

This being said, everyone can do SEO. Anyone who can write that is. But the problem lies in peoples habits. In todays inforamtion and fast food age we want everything yesterday, with higher quality and lower prices, but in reality this is often not possible, unless you have some big bucks to spend. Most people will fail at SEO because their lazy habits. Building links and worrying about driving traffic instead of bettering the user experience and providing good quality content will most certainly hurt you more then help you.

As an SEO, I am advising you not to spend your money on SEO until you have developed a site that works, has excellent content and is making you money, then, and only then, do I recommend you looking into an SEO company to help accelerate your success.

Building Links 101 - Back to the Basics.

Building Links has always been a vital part to any SEO strategy so here is how I start my link building campaigns.

1.  Research - This is hands down the most important part before you build even a single link.  Find out what keywords you want to rank for and more importantly what keywords convert the best.  Look at your PPC Campaigns, Analytics or any kind of data you can analyze and figure out what ones are work and what ones are bleeding.  Make sure you mix up your keywords and keep in mind that in order to rank for a main term like “widgets” you will most likely have to dominate keywords like “blue widgets”.

2.  More Research -  After developing a strong list of keywords then begin searching them and seeing who comes up.  Check back links on the top ranking sites for each keyword and start a spread sheet of the sites.  I like to group the links by keyword but use whatever method you prefer just keep it organized because it will make it a lot easier when you actually begin contacting them.

3.  Build Links - After putting together what should be a lengthy list of website that are related to your keywords begin emailing them.  Finding the contact form is not always easy but checking Alexa & Whois will sometimes give you their email.  Be sure to create personalized emails that include your site and their site and tell them why they should link to you.  Also be sure to use a professional looking email, something like hotguy_2001@aol.com doesn’t really come off as professional.

This is just one of the many ways you can build links and even though this is a common method it has proven to be effective.

Subscribe to my feed because I will show you another method soon and you wont want to miss out.  This next one will certainly not be as basic and will be much more effective!

3 Steps to Getting Great Traffic from StumbleUpon

I will show you 3 easy steps on how to get traffic from StumbleUpon. I recently used this method for a client and we have been seeing about 300 hits a day from StumbleUpon and this has been going on for about 2 weeks now. There is a little initial work involved but it pays off so without further a due here are the 3 steps to getting great traffic from StumbleUpon!

1. Install the StumbleUpon Firefox addon so you can stumble yours and others sites with ease. This is a great tool that will make your job a whole lot easier and make you much more efficient!

2. Pick the page you want to drive traffic to, usually articles work best for this. After you have a page opened up, click on the thumbs up icon in the toolbar you installed in step 1. It will ask you for a review, keywords and weather or not its adult content. The MOST important part of this step is the keywords you define as this is how it will be found so be sure you add in plenty of relevant keywords. After you add all this in, Submit it.

3. Go to the Digital Point Forum -> Buy, Sell or Trade -> Freebies and start a new Thread that says something like “Stumble me and I will Stumble you!”. Post your link in the thread and nicely ask people to stumble you and in return you will do the same for the links they post in the thread. I also suggest adding these people as friends because if they are avid users they will usually check out your stumbles and help you out. Sharing is caring so be sure to do the same.

Thats it! After you start your thread be sure to check it often and stumble people that have stumbled you. I usually respond and let them know I stumbled them which bumps the post meaning it keeps it near the top because it was recently updated. be careful with bumping your thread because they will punish you if you’re posting things that are not related or are clearly meant to only bump your thread.

Mojobaby - Pretty RAD website!

I was on CSS Remix and found a link to Mojobaby.com and though it was pretty cool.  They offer this cool little widget you can add to your myspace or blog that shows your pictures.  They should be using Open Social to pull in my photos from myspace so i don’t have to re upload images to myspace, facebook and now this site and flickr and yea… The list is getting too long!!  Open up those developer platforms myspace and start letting us pull the data via APIs.  Its the 21st century, we should be streamlining things on the web and not creating more cool tools and widgets that work and are awesome but are more work for us, the users.  I hate uploading images to facebook and myspace because they are duplicates and to add to that list sometimes i add some to flickr and now mojobaby!  The list is getting way too long!!!

PamCakes Exposed! Pamela Lund - Einstein Industries

Einstein Industries Pamela Lund (PamCakes) is making some moves in the SEO/SEM Online World with great videos about PageRank and other related topics. Shoemoney has picked up the bait like a fat kid loves cake and is really helping them get some exposure. Props to Einstein Industries for staying on top of the SEO/SEM world and keeping everyone up to date and especially to PamCakes for putting her face and name out there.
I’d like to make some suggestion for PamCakes and her crew:

1. Show me some numbers - If you’re talking about online marketing or ranking in the search engines then please give us some numbers I can ponder over. I love seeing how a site moves up in the search engines and how various marketing efforts effect it so show examples and SHOW me that you know what you’re talking about.

2. Get the Einsteiner Involved - I know PamCakes can read a script that is probably written by some not so sexy guy like Mike that knows his $hit and that PamCakes adds that sex appeal but let me hear it from the source every now and then or get Einstiners involved by having a discussion and argue your points on why ohhhh lets say buying links is good or bad.

3. Teach me something - Most of what I have seen in the videos I already know so show or teach me something new. Einstein does SEO for thousands of websites so PLEASE give us some inside info and not regurgetated information.

My Experience with Sprint and the Famous Early Termination Fee

I had been a Sprint customer for almost 4 years now and recently I decided that I wanted to buy an iphone because its simply better and easier to use then and PDA or cellphone Sprint offers. So before I bought the iphone I called Sprint to see 1. How long I had left on my contract and 2. To see if I can avoid the early termination fee. After talking to a customer service representative I found out that I had only 2 months left on my Sprint contract and the best part was that I could add a new line to the existing contract to avoid a termination fee and transfer out the old number to AT&T. This was great news right!? No so much… I called Sprint the next day after transferring over the number and they said a new number means a new contract so im sorry sir you’re going to have to pay the $150 early termination fee. As you can imagine I was pretty upset about this so what am I to do? How about email the shit out of the Sprint employees until I get a response I am happy with? Sounds good to me and thats exactly what I have begun and will keep doing.

Here is my first email to Steve Nielson, Sprint Chief Service Officer:

I had Sprint service for years now and for the most part it was ok. With the recent introduction of the iphone and me being a tech guru myself it only made sense to have it.

I called Sprint to find out two things before purchasing the iphone, 1. How long I had left on my existing contract and 2. To see if I can avoid the termination fee with the addition of another line to the existing contract so that I can still pay Sprint for the remaining months left. After speaking to a representative I found out I only had 2 months left on the contract and that I can indeed add a new line to the existing contract and transfer out the old number on it. This to me was great news and I was happy to find out that even if I am switching providers that Sprint at least would honor my contract and let me finish it out with the addition of another line. I specifically asked the representative if I should add the number before or after the transfer and he said after so that is what I did.

I bought the iphone, activated it and transferred the number. The next day I called Sprint to add the number and low and behold I can’t. Sprint won’t honor my contract or give me any kind of break. Being a customer for so long and having 3 other lines tied to that account I am very upset with this matter. This was in no way my fault. I called in specifically to find out what the rules are so this didn’t happen and now its happening.

I would like this matter addressed by a manager and someone higher if needed. I can be reached at (760) 272-5094.

Thank You,
Marko Nikolic

We’ll see what they come back with and I’ll keep you posted. Also on a side note the Iphone is amazing.
